Step 1: Pre-Planning

Today we took the first step in the house re-build process. We signed our planning contract and met with Oliver and the architect, Sue, to measure the house. We also discussed our wish-list for our ultimate home; we shall see how much we can get within the budget :) Oh, most importantly, we got the keys!

On  personal note: The current owner has been very gracious about all of the changes we are planning, but I feel a little guilty tearing apart their family home of 15 years. Especially because today we found out that they had completely redone the house on their own! Plumbing, electrical, sheetrock, windows, roof, siding, the whole deal....I appreciate how much work that is. I also remember how hard it was to think of our house in Eugene changing after we left and we were only there a short time. We are keeping all the original built-ins and integrity of the house at least. I wish I could say we were keeping more, but the updates they made are just not the style that we would chose and some of the materials are a little dated. Oliver is completely on board for keeping/repurposing materials as much as possible though.

It finally feels real today and it is very exciting to get started! I can't wait to see their design ideas in 2-3 weeks!

Happy Friday!
