Exterior Paint & Interior Trim Details - Week 27, Monday

Moment of truth...The house is painted! I've been pretty nervous today because it's a big commitment to chose a house color. And I really hope I picked right :)

The trim was painted first, a nice soft buttercream color, and next the siding, a dark steely gray. To be honest, the color isn't quite what I expected from the dark, warm gray swatch painted by the front door a few weeks ago, but I really like it! I can't wait to see what it looks like when the plastic is all off and you can see the contrast between the siding, trim & windows.

Still all taped up, but painted!

The siding color is not perfectly represented here. You can see some of the trim color around the windows and on the upper part of the columns.
Kind of a dark photo....

Better glimpse of the siding color. It's not quite this dark in person though.

Built Ins, Trim, Cabinetry, & Exterior Paint - Week 26, Sunday

Today was a beautiful sunny Portland Sunday. Rare we can say that in April! With three days in a row of sun, it meant that the painters could do the exterior of the house! It was perfect weather to visit the house and I hope the sunshine made it a little easier for the guys working away their weekend there too! The team has been very busy and I greatly appreciate them working on the weekends to get us done on time.

Here are some new pictures of what they have been up to:

Kitchen bench - this will be nice for taking off shoes at the back door and it opens so you can store a few pairs inside!

Don't you have a saw in your living room?

Master Bath Vanity (on the top back is the custom drawer for my hair dryer & curling iron. I saw it on Houzz and they recreated it for me. So cool!)

Beginnings of the basement bar

Basement Window - I was wondering how they would tackle this because the original outer foundation was not square with the framed walls. This looks like a pretty clean solution! You can see it better below.

Inside the uneven windowsill

Basement Cabinets - All the cabinets have soft close doors and drawers. It's such a nice feature and I didn't realize it would be on everything. A very nice surprise :)

Our "free" bookshelf in the basement :)

Laundry Room - I think this will be my favorite room in the house...

Landry Room - Custom built-in wall for wrapping paper, ribbons, fabric rolls, you name it!

Landry Room - again.

I think my little North Pole Apple Tree likes it here. These are it's best blooms in almost 3 years!

Siding! More Plumbing, Electrical & HVAC - Week 16, Sunday

When we first got to the house this Sunday, we were a little disappointed that the front of the house had not changed much. It had been 5 days since our last visit and all we noticed was the new trim on the skirt. But, once we walked around the back, we saw that the back siding was underway!

After my family's last visit, my dad had some ideas for the front walk. The original front porch is cement with a impressed grid pattern. My dad's suggestion was to continue this same pattern through the front walk we are planning to add. It will come up the center of the lawn to steps directly in front of the front door. I think this plan will be a really nice addition to the house and make it much more inviting that walking up the driveway.

Here are some interior photos that show the final plumbing, electrical and HVAC details.

Master bath - tub
Master bath - shower (right) & toilet room (left)
Master bath - vanity plumbing for double sinks
Master bath - toilet room, or, the WC
HVAC, ceiling fan & can lighting in master bath
Upstairs bath
Washer & dryer plumbing in upstairs hall closet. This was a late add idea. Originally, we wanted to have a laundry shoot to the basement laundry room, but we realized there was no good home for it where it could function properly. This was an alternative solution that will allow us to add a washer and dryer upstairs at a later date if we get sick of the basement set-up.
